The Remains Of Five Prospective Corps Members Arrive Uyo By Military Aircraft

The remains of the five prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps who lost their lives in a crash on the Abaji-Kwali Expressway in Abuja on July 28 have been flown to Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital for burial

The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Uyo by an Airforce Plane.

They were traveling at night from Uyo, Nigeria’s South-south, to Katsina, in the North-west region, when the accident occurred along Abuja-Abaji-Kwali Expressway on Wednesday around 4 a.m.

Four of the victims were from Akwa Ibom State, while one was from Imo State.

The Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, confirmed that two of their graduates were among the dead.

The polytechnic Rector, Moses Umobong, in a statement on Thursday, identified the deceased as Innocent Ukpere and Victor Akpan, who were graduates of Mass Communication

The other three have been identified as Miracle Asuquo, graduate of Psychology; Stella Ekikoh, graduate of Sociology and Anthropology; and Ezuruike Coleman, a graduate of History and International Studies, all of the University of Uyo (Uniuyo), Nigeria.

The Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, while receiving the NYSC director-general sent his condolences to the families of the late corps members..

Akwa Ibom State Governor , Mr Udom Emmanuel played host on Thursday , 14th January, 2021 to the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ukpabio Ndaeyo, at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House , Uyo.

It’s the first official visit of Prof. Ndaeyo to Governor Emmanuel following his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo.

Prof Ndaeyo Emerges 8th Vice Chancellor of UNIUYO

The Governing Council of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has approved the appointment of Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo as the  8th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

A statement by the University Registrar, Mr Aniedi Udofia, made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Tuesday indicates that the decision was reached at  a Special Meeting held by the Governing Council yesterday. .

Udofia said the appointment of Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo was announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Professor Austin C. Awujo.

The new Vice Chancellor was until his appointment, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration); immediate past Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Chairman, Committee of Deans among other administrative experiences. 

Professor Ndaeyo, according to the statement, holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Farm Systems and  Masters degree in Agronomy both from the Premier University in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan. 

“Ndaeyo is also an alumnus of the University of Uyo (then University of Cross River State) where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Agronomy having previously obtained an Ordinary National Diploma in Agriculture from the College of Agriculture, Obubra. 

“He  joined the services of his alma mater, the University of Uyo as a  Graduate Assistant on November 6, 1992 and rose through the ranks to secure a Full  Chair as Professor in the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture. 

“A member of several learned and professional body which include Crop Science Society of Nigeria (CSSN), Farm Management Association of Nigeria (FMAN), Nigerian Rural Sociological Association (NRSA) and Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN) among others. 

“Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo hails from Ini Local Government of Akwa Ibom  State and is the first Alumnus of the University of Uyo to be appointed Vice Chancellor of a Federal University in Nigeria”. The statement read 

The new Vice Chancellor was born on March 25, 1961. He is married with two children. 

UNIUYO promotes 20 Professors, 35 Associate Professors

The Vice Chancellor University of Uyo, Nigeria, Prof.Eniefiok Essien SAN, has promoted 20 Professors and 35 Associate Professors with their resounding success in the academic world.

Essien made this known during the Senate meeting held on Monday, 29th September 2020. The newly promoted professors include; Prof. Mojisola Eseyin(Faculty of Law), Prof. Eniesua Essiet(Nuclear& Radiation Physics), Prof. Elijah John(Philosophy), Prof.Uwem Udok(Law), Prof. Sylvester Eka(History), Prof.Felicia Ekpu (Physical &Health Education), Prof. Godfrey Akpabio(Physics), Prof. Emmanuel Ejere (Political Science), Prof. Godwin Umoh(Economics) and Prof. Dorathy Umotan(Law).

Other 35 Associate Professors promoted equates the number to 55 academic staff captured in a recent promotion. This is one of the highest in the varsity’s history.

The vice chancellor while addressing the body commend and congratulated the newly promoted academian admonishing them not to relent in their efforts to uplift the University to a greater height. ‘UNIUYO is a brand let’s build and protect’ said Essien.
