Mohammed Adamu: Report Says New IGP Set To Be Named By Police Council

– This is as the police council is set to hold a crucial seating in February as Mohammed Adamu’s service year ends in February

– There are, however, indications that the president may extend the tenure of the police boss

A new inspector general of police may be announced in February 2021 by the Nigerian Police Council (NPC), a credible media source has suggested.

According to The Punch, the current IGP, Mohammed Adamu, will retire from the force next month with a slim hope of tenure extension.

Adamu, who is the 20th IGP the country has produced, was appointed as the police boss by President Muhammadu Buhari, replacing Ibrahim Kpotun Idris of Niger state on January 15, 2019.

There are, however, hopes that the Adamu’s tenure may be extended by the president in order to allow him to execute some reforms in the police force.

<p class="has-drop-cap" value="<amp-fit-text layout="fixed-height" min-font-size="6" max-font-size="72" height="80">The president has on many occasions expressed trust and confidence in Ibrahim’s leadership of the force and has shunned demands for the sack of the security chiefs amid a deluge of security challenges. The president has on many occasions expressed trust and confidence in Ibrahim’s leadership of the force and has shunned demands for the sack of the security chiefs amid a deluge of security challenges.

Earlier, President Buhari extended the tenure of the comptroller-general of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the commandant-general, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Muhammadu Gana.

But should Buhari decide not to extend Adamu’s tenure, many assistant inspector generals of police have been named to take over from where the current IGP ends his tenure.

“We know that AIG Moses Jitiboh (former Chief Personal Security Officer to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan) still has over five years but they are trying to spoil his chances. Apart from him, about four other AIGs from the North also have good chances of being appointed.

Congratulations To Nigeria Police Officers, Check How Much They Will Start Collecting As Salary

The EndSARS Protesters made five demands from the federal government and part of it is that there should be an increment in the salary of police officers. The federal government under president Muhammadu Buhari led administration has shown determination to make sure that these demands are met.

First, it was the FSARS department of the Nigeria Police Force that was scrapped and it was replaced by special weapon and tactics department, judicial panel was also set up by many states so as to listen to cases of victims of police brutality.

However, in a tweet by Omoyele Sowore of Saharareporters, he revealed that there has been an increment in the salary structure of police officers and the least ranked officer will now receive 84,000 naira monthly. He also revealed that the Commissioner of police will now earn 1.5 million naira per month. This is a big win for officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

I believe police officers will be more encouraged to perform their duties without much frustrations and there will be a reduction in cases of police brutalities.

Although a lot of people expressed joy over the surprising increment of the police salary as they strongly believes that the increment of their salaries would reduce the number of corrupt practice in the police force, see screenshots of people’s comments below:

Drama As Boys Stood Their Ground Against SARS Officers That Wanted To Arrest Them

Drama As Boys Stood Their Ground Against SARS Officers That Wanted To Arrest Them

Another SARS operation in Benin didn’t end well as the boys they were meant to arrest stood their ground. According to an eye witness who recorded the video, These SARS officers saw these boys moving together on the road and they stopped them. They asked the boys to open their phone, the boys complied and these SARS officers checked their phones very well but found nothing incriminating. Instead of the SARS officers to let them go, they asked the boys to follow them to the station.

The boys disagreed and made it clear that they have no right to be arrested when they did nothing wrong. The SARS officers tried to use force to arrest them for no visible reason but these group of boys stood their ground and argued with the SARS officers that they weren’t going. After a long argument and the officers couldn’t provide a real reason why they should be arrested, the tension went down and the boys were allowed to go.

The drama attracted the attention of people but they couldn’t near them because they know how SARS Officers react when boys argue with them. These boys did a dangerous thing there but they survived it, many aren’t lucky to survive this encounter because there have being various reports of boys that were shot dead because they refused to release and unlock their phone.

Nigeria just need God because the case of Police Brutality is increasing week by week if you notice.

The late mechanic, who could not bear the pain inflicted on him by the police in detention, died on December 29, 2019, after which his counterparts were charged to court and remanded in January 2020 but were released days later following the directive of the state’s Department of Public Prosecutions.

Policeman arrested as girlfriend dies in Lagos hotel

Nigerian Policeman Arrested As Girlfriend Dies In Hotel

A police sergeant, Anthony Kachukwu, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command after his girlfriend, Justina Omofuma, died in one of the rooms of the Exclusive Mansion Hotel in the Surulere area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Anthony took Justina to the hotel, where they both passed the night, but the lady was said to have lost consciousness and fell to the ground while sitting on a chair.

In the process of falling, it was learnt that Justina hit her forehead on the ground and died due to the impact of the injuries she sustained.

A source, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, said Anthony was discussing with Justina when he stepped into the toilet but on his return, he saw Justina lying on the floor of the room.

They were both inside the room in the hotel and he left her, where she was sitting, to do something in the toilet. When he was done, he stepped back into the room, but was shocked to see the girl lying on the floor face down. It was when he moved closer that he realised that the girl had died, the source said.

When all efforts to resuscitate the victim reportedly proved abortive, PUNCH Metro gathered that Anthony reported the incident at the Surulere Police Division, where he was taken into custody.

It was learnt that Justinas remains were evacuated from the hotel and deposited in the Mainland Hospitals mortuary for autopsy.

However, a resident, who identified himself simply as Adeoti, said Justinas family said they did not want an autopsy to be conducted on her body, adding that they suspected no foul play as they were aware that she and Anthony were lovers.

Justinas family know that they were both lovers and they never suspected any foul play. All they wanted was for them to perform her burial rites; so, they didnt allow the police to continue the investigation or conduct an autopsy to reveal the cause of death. The incident occurred on July 26, 2020, he said.

It was learnt that Justinas family applied for her corpse and after fulfilling all the necessary conditions, her corpse was released to them for burial.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the cause of Justinas death could not be ascertained, because her family withdrew the case on the ground that they suspected no foul play.

He, however, added that Anthony was undergoing orderly room trial for other disciplinary matters.

Adejobi stated, The family of the deceased girl wrote that they were not interested in any case and did not allow the police to go on with the autopsy. They withdrew the case and revealed that they knew that the two of them were actually close.

So, the corpse was released to them and buried accordingly. However, at our end, the policeman is still facing an orderly room trial. From the brief I got, the lady went to meet him at the hotel and she slumped there.

Anything could have caused the incident, but since we didnt do any post mortem, we cannot ascertain the immediate or remote cause of death, because the family withdrew the case.
