There is tension in Mabushi community in Abuja, as a police officer on Saturday allegedly shot dead a colleague and also killed himself. New Telegraph learnt that the trigger-happy officer, who was attached to one of the private residences in the area, was exchanging friendly banters with the dead colleague who was also attached to a construction site around the same environment, before the sad incident. An eyewitness, a lady, who sells snacks and drinks opposite the scene of the incident, said that both dead officers were heard talking about the ongoing nationwide protest, and how civilians were attacking police personnel and burning stations. The lady, who was visibly terrified, said she narrowly escaped the bullet while she was serving one of the site worker’s snacks. According to her, the officer who just finished consuming some doses of “agbo” a local alcoholic herbal mixture, was boasting that he cannot hold a gun and be disarmed by a anybody, and all of a sudden, pulled the trigger shot his colleague on the head, and when he saw the lifeless body on the ground, he turned the gun on himself and killed himself. She noted that while she was lucky to have escaped unhurt, one of the site workers who rushed out in a state of confusion when the first shoot was heard, was seriously injured by the second bullet. As at the time our Correspondent visited the scene the dead bodies had been evacuated and the injured taken to an undisclosed hospital. Officers at Mabushi Police Station, who said the Divisional Police Officer was not available to attend to our correspondent’s inquiry, did not deny or confirm the incident. Attempts to get reaction from the FCT Command Public Relations Officer was also not successful
The protesters have been clamouring for an end to police brutality.
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCT ), Muhammad Bello, said security operatives had arrested some hoodlums who infiltrated the #ENDSARS protesters camp.
The protesters have been clamouring for an end to police brutality.
The minister disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment of Apo and Dutse Alhaji areas where some residents were killed and properties vandalised.
The Minister said the FCT Police Command had already arrested arrowheads of the violent protests, adding that security agents were still making efforts to arrest more culprits.
He called on community leaders and heads of market associations to fish out those who participated in the violent protests,
He said, “As I speak, arrests have been made. The FCT Police Commissioner has informed me. Those who participated and carried out the attacks will face the wrath of the law. We will ensure that it is done.
On plans to compensate those whose cars, houses and businesses were destroyed, the Minister said a committee had been set up to entertain complaints.

President Muhammadu Buhari is presently presiding over a national security council meeting with the service chiefs at the State House in Abuja.
According to the media aide to the president on new media Bashir Ahmad who made this disclosure via a tweet on Thursday, October 22, the meeting also has vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, in attendance.
Although the purpose of the meeting has not been disclosed as at the time of this report, there are insinuations that discussion may be lengthened down to the ongoing unrest across the country.
The meeting may also address the controversial shooting of EndSARS protesters in Lekki area of Lagos state by armed security operatives on Monday, October 19.
Apart from VP Osinbajo, the national security adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno, secretary to the government of the federation Boss Mustapha and chief of staff to the president Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari are also in attendance.
Ministers at the meeting include Bashir Magashi (defence), Mohammad Dingyadi (police affairs) and Geoffrey Onyeama (foreign affairs) and interior minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Leading the service chiefs to the meeting is the chief of defence staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin and chief of army staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.
Other security chiefs at the meeting are the chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, the chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu, director-general of Department of State Services DSS), Yusuf Bichi,
The director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i and the leadership of the directorate of military intelligence are also at the viral meeting
The country is almost in a state of chaos, but is already in a state of confusion. Things are now taking turns, but not in the way many assumed and expected it to be. All these are as a result of the nationwide protests being carried out by the youths, against SARS, and bad governance in totality. Curfews have already been imposed in some states due to the way violence and destruction have been taking place. Many have lost their lives in the cause of protesting, while many more have been injured.
Reacting to these happenings, the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, released a message on Twitter. In his message, he predicted that there would be a bloodbath in the country if an end is not put to Nigeria. He also alleged that it was repented Boko Haram members that were the cause of the violence being witnessed in the peaceful protests. Below is a screenshot of what he posted;
The foreigner he was referring to in this his message was a man popularly known as The Imam of Peace. The Imam of Peace had earlier made a post on the same Twitter, where he acknowledged or alleged that it was a repented Boko Haram member, recruited into the DSS, that was attacking protesters yesterday in Abuja. Here’s what he said;
If you look closely at the gun that the man above is carrying, you would see that it is the gun specially designed for use by the DSS. So the question now is, how did he get the gun? This is to say that there might be a truth in what both the Imam and MNK said. But whatever be the case, we hope that the man is arrested and made to explain how he got the gun, and why he attacked the protesters.

•20 shot dead, protesters break into prisons, free inmates •Torch police stations, patrol van, destroy high court building •Edo declares 24-hour curfew
Tony Osauzo, Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin, Romanus Ugwu and Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye,
There was pandemoniumacross the country, yesterday as the 13-day-old demonstration against police brutality took a violent twist.
The #EndSARS protest started on October 8 with protesters taking to the streets in different parts of the country, calling for a reform of the Police force and disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for alleged brutality on citizens.
In Benin City, the Edo State capital, it was a day of rage, blood and death as hoodlums stormed two prisons, set free inmates including 120 condemned criminals at the Oko Correctional facility.
In the process, at least nine inmates were reportedly killed while trying to escape, just as others escaped with gunshot injuries.
Four people were also reportedly shot dead in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area. The protesters were said to have beaten up a military man, forcing soldiers to react leading to the killings.
This came as two persons were feared killed when hoodlums broke into the Benin Prison along Sapele road and freed several inmates in one of the cells.
The casualty was said to have been recorded at Oko Prison when armed squad of prison officials engaged the hoodlums in gun fire. According to sources, immediately after the attack on Benin Prison along Sapele road, security was alerted in Oko but calls to the Army and the Police for reinforcement were not heeded hence the ease with which the hoodlums overpowered the prison guards.
“They came in their thousands and their mission was to free inmates. They have been communicating with the inmates because even before they broke into the facility, the inmates were already rioting inside the place,” a prison source said.
The hoodlums were also said to have torched no fewer than five police stations and vandalised the High Court 4 beside the prison.
They were said to have started gathering along Sapele Road beside the prison as early as 7 am setting bonfires and turning back motorists and other road users.
They launched their attack when their number had increased considerably, broke a part of the wall while some climbed the fence into the prison yard. Some of the inmates escaped with gunshots while an elderly man was recaptured.
2 feared killed, others injured in cult clash in Edo
No fewer than two persons were killed in a rival cult clash that followed the protest in another party of the city.
A source, however, said the figure could be higher as the clash spread from Okhoro area to Medical Store Road, Eweka and Upper Mission and its environs.
The rival cult groups, Aiye and Eiye, had taken advantage of the protest to settle scores.
Several others were said to have also sustained gunshot injuries of varying degrees in the shootings.
“I can confirm to you that one of those injured, a young man, was rushed to the clinic along Okhoro road, close to Oransaye junction.
“We can only pray and hope that the curfew declared by the government will calm the warring cult groups home,” the source said.
3 dead, many injured in Abuja
At least two persons died at the Mobile Barracks entrance road to Kuje Area Council, FCT, Abuja.
The peaceful protest which started in the early hours degenerated into bloody scene around 4pm when boys suspected to be Fulani stormed the venue of the protest in three buses with all manners of weapon and attacked the participants.
The protesters had in retaliation fought back and within 20 minutes, both camp lost one person each while several others sustained various degrees of injuries before the police and detachment of the military intervened.
However, instead of normalcy returning, tension heightened again when the protesters narrowly lynched another Fulani boy, forcing the police to fire teargas.
In another development, one person was feared killed and a vehicle torched as soldiers, police personnel and a ProSARS clashed with #EndSARS group.
The deceased, Anthony Onome Unuode, was said to have died from multiple injuries he sustained during the protest that was believed to have been hijacked by hoodlums in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The #EndSARS protest took a different dimension with the emergence of the PROSARS protesters who clashed with #EndSARS protesters at the Central Business District, where they had gathered.
While urging protesters to be law-abiding, remain peaceful in their conduct and shun all forms of violence, Commissioner of Police FCT, CP. Bala Ciroma, reassured residents of his unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property.
5 police stations attacked, suspects freed
The Edo Police command has confirmed attacks on its facilities at Oba Market, Idogbo and other areas.
A statement on its official Twitter page said they carted away arms and ammunition and freed suspects in custody.
The tweet read: “@policeNG regrettably confirms the unfortunate attacks on police facilities – Ugbekun Police Station, Oba Market Police Station and Idogbo Police Post by persons posing as #ENDSARS protesters in Benin, Edo State, today, Monday, 19th October, 2020.
“The extent of damage cannot be ascertained at the moment but report indicates that the protesters carted away arms and ammunition from the armoury and freed the suspects in custody before setting some of the facilities ablaze.
“The Force is doing everything possible at the moment to bring the situation under control, protect lives of innocent citizens and prevent further attacks on any other critical infrastructure in the state.”
The hoodlums also reportedly torched the St. Saviour’s and Textile Mill road police stations.
Edo declares 24-hour curfew, sets up 12-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry
Following the violence, Edo Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state till further notice.
A statement by Osarodion Ogie, Secretary to the State Government, said the decision became necessary because of the disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of #ENDSARS protesters.
“While the government of Edo State respects the rights of its citizens to undertake legitimate protests, it cannot sit idly when hoodlums have taken laws into their hands to cause mayhem on innocent citizens and the state.
“By the directive, schools and businesses are to shut down activities accordingly. Those who cannot move safely are to stay put between now and 4pm till calmness is restored.
“Parents are advised to rein in their children, youths and wards, to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
“The responsibility of government is to protect lives and property and maintain law and order, therefore, anyone found outside in violation of the curfew would be dealt with according to the law.”
The government also announced the setting up a 12-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry into circumstances surrounding the #EndSARS protests in the state.
Mr Ogie disclosed in a statement that the panel has 90 days to complete the assignment.
The panel is chaired by Hon. Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe, while Mrs. Joyce Ugbodaga is the Secretary to the Committee.

He said the task force operatives had gone beyond the rules of engagement set out for them by the council.
While he apologized profusely for the indiscretions of the operatives, the council boss said the taskforce will now be replaced by the AMAC Marshal, a guard company owned by the council.
He said the AMAC Marshal guards would be well trained in collaboration with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Directorate of Road Traffic Regulations (DRTS) before they will fully commence operations.
Earlier, Chairman of the FCT Council of the NUJ, Comrade said the town hall meeting was not an attempt to witch-hunt the council, saying the event was aimed at brainstorming on how to bring an end to the incessant harrassment of residents, including journalists, by AMAC taskforce.
The event which was declared open by a former Chairman of FCT Council of the NUJ, Mr Malachy Uzendu, had in attendance the Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, Hon. The town hall meeting was necessitated by concerns from members of the public, particularly motorists, over the high-handedness, extortion and harassment by the taskforce.

Nigeria Youths are violently erupting and or spurting pains against scornful Politicians of Nigeria Extraction, who inflicted pains on the innocent generation, the movement has been on across the nook and cranny of Nigerian for over ten days and still counting.
The leaderless movement that is currently sweeping the entire Nation has gained momentum over the days, as different clerics from Nigeria and beyond keep endorsing the movement championed by Nigeria Youths who feel enraged by the Long lasted administrative ineptitude in Nigeria.
Just this morning, a popular Abuja pastor known as, Dr Pastor Paul Enenche joined the Youths to Press home thier demands despite the tight security difficulty in Nation’s capital occasioned by last night’s hoodlum Attack on peaceful protesters.
At the time of filing this report, the renowned Pastor is yet to be Grant a press interview as the solidarity movement continues among heavy turnout of protesters.
In a similar fashion, report suggest that, thousands of Nigerian Youths are also engaged in the peaceful demonstration in Jos, Lagos and other states of the federation.
As Nigerians come to terms with the harsh reality of the ongoing EndSARS protest, one thing that was manifested today was the fact that some groups of people have been seriously affected by the protest.
It was like a scene from the movies when some armed anti-protesters thronged the streets of Abuja with a single aim of attacking the EndSARS protesters.
From the video shared this morning, the group advanced like an army and went straight for the parked cars at the venue of the protest at Berger area in Abuja.
They smashed windshields, car windows, head lamps and even went as far as denting the body of the cars.
The protesters would have it no more as they went back, regrouped and went for a head to head attack with the hoodlums, some were maimed and others were captured.
Some gory videos of some of the hoodlums were shared on social media and it showed the extent to which they were beaten and disfigured before they were handed to the police and taken to the hospital.
Just this evening, a video surfaced showing a young man who identified himself as Anasu Umar.
The man gave details of the attack and mentioned that it was the Jabi park union chairman whose name was given as Nasiru Gode, that sent them to commit the havoc.
He further added that in the ensuing melee, he lost his brother and others from the chaos that erupted.
This has attested to the fact that indeed, the EndSARS protest still needs to be explained to some people.
There are benefits to the protest apart from the calls to completely proscribe the SARS unit.
The police force is at the moment looking at several options which include a better salary/general welfare package for police officers thus anyone who is fighting the protest is doing more harm than good.
The police is yet to react to the revealing information and this is hoping if the information about the chairman is confirmed, he should be brought to book immediately.

The families of Late Stella Abudu arrested, assaulted, molested, allegedly murdered by SARS in Apo, Abuja, are demanding justice for their daughter who was arrested by three SARS operatives on Thursday, September 10, 2020, when they invaded the home of her fiancé, Afam Ugwunwa, at Wumba village in the Lokogoma district of Abuja to arrest him.
The Abudu family and their lawyer, Barr. Ifeanyi Cosmas of Cosmic Legal Consult, on Wednesday, had a meeting with Adada General Assembly, led by Hon. Lazarus Ogbonnaya, and other members including Mr. Eze Michael Obochi and Barr. Chidozie Onah
The family of Late Stella Ifeoma Abudu, the bride-to-be who was allegedly raped and murdered by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has moved to petition the International Human Right Commission (IHRC); a civil society group, Transparency Internation; the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) and other relevant bodies
The Adada Group maintained that it will ensure Late Stella gets justice, adding that a proper forensic examination and autopsy are carried out to get to the root cause of the deceased’s death.
The group has taken steps to reach the Enugu State Government liaison Office in Abuja to ensure that justice is receive for the deceased.
Recall that in an exclusive interview, Barr. Ifeanyi Cosmas Mamah Esq. told The Street Journal that the SARS operatives were in search of Stella’s fiancé on allegations that he was in possession of hard substances suspected to be narcotics.
Barr. Cosmas said“The case has been transferred from the Apo police division to the FCT Command and the Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, has ordered for an autopsy to be done to ascertain the cause of her death.
“I can also confirm to you that the SARS officers who are responsible for her death and were at large have been identified, arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation at the station.
“Late Stella just rounded up her NYSC and did her introduction with her fiance on the 6th of September and her traditional wedding was billed for December, 2020.
“Residents in the area have affirmed that the SARS picked her up on September 10th but the police have continued to say they met her unconscious when they broke into her fiancé’s apartment and took her to the hospital.
“We have strong reasons to believe that Stella Ifeoma Abudu was sexually assaulted before she was killed. That is why we wrote a petition to the Inspector-General so that the case is transferred from the Apo Police Station to the Police Headquarters. We lost faith in Apo Division.
“They alleged that her fiancé was in possession of narcotics that is why they were looking for him.”
In addition, Senate has Commenced investigation of the alleged rape, murder of Late Stella Ifeoma Abudu by SARS
The Nigerian Senate has mandated its Committees on Police Affairs and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to investigate the alleged arrest, detention, rape and murder of Ifeoma Abugu by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) FCT Command in Abuja.
It also mandated the committees to investigate the status of the presidential directive on the reorganisation of SARS in light of the recent public outcry over atrocities perpetrated by the squad.
This was sequel to a point of order raised by the senator representing Enugu North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate, Chukwuka Utazi.
Ms Abugu was said to have been arrested and whisked away from her fiance’s apartment by three SARS operatives at Wumba, Lokogoma Area of Abuja on September 1.
She was arrested in place of her fiance, Afam Abugu, who was the initial target of the police officers. She was detained, allegedly raped, and murdered by the SARS operatives.
Ms Abugu, who had just completed her national youth service, was planning her wedding, which was scheduled for December. She was killed days after her introduction.
Although the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, had ordered a discreet investigation and post-mortem on the corpse to unravel the true cause of her death, the anti-robbery squad claims that she died of cocaine overdose.
In his presentation, Mr Utazi faulted the arrest of Ms Abugu in place of her fiance, which he said is contrary to Section 7 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which prohibits the arrest of family and friends of a suspect in order to get the suspect to surrender.
Before the gruesome murder of Ms Abugu, he said, there have been persistent complaints by the general public including news reports in print and electronic media of the attrocities of operatives of the squad including illegal arrests, detention and extra-judicial killing of Nigerians under very questionable and controversial circumstances.
He also recalled that in 2018, the federal government, in response to public outcry and media reports on the unlawful activities of SARS, set up a presidential panel on reform of SARS and the report of the panel formed the basis of the presidential directive on the overhaul of the activities of SARS to ensure that the squad is intelligence-driven, human rights sensitive and restricted to the prevention and detention of heinous crimes such as armed robbery and kidnapping and apprehension of offenders linked to the stated offences.
“Despite all efforts to reform SARS, the notorious squad has remained brutal in its operation with very little or no regard to the observance of human rights and suspects, contrary to its scope of activities and the presidential directive regarding its operation and has even veered away from its core mandate.
“There is an urgent need for the Senate to investigate the incident in order to ensure that justice is given to the family of the deceased and to establish the status of SARS reform in the light of the recent public outcry over atrocities perpetrated by SARS operatives,” he said.
